CBD safety: what FDA guidance says

CBD is not risk-free. FDA warns about potential liver injury, drug interactions and drowsiness, and advises against CBD during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with a qualified clinician when safety questions apply to you.

FDA-identified risks

FDA states that CBD can cause liver injury, can affect how other drugs work, and can increase sedation or drowsiness when combined with alcohol or other drugs that slow brain activity.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

FDA strongly advises against CBD, THC and marijuana use in any form during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Approval status

FDA has approved a prescription CBD drug for specific seizure disorders, but it has not approved ordinary consumer CBD products as treatments for disease.
